Parallax¶
Relief depth from the Height Map: bricks, paving and stones look deep without extra geometry. Needs Use Height Map? and a Height Map.
| Parameter / switch | What it does | Typical value |
|---|---|---|
| Use Parallax? | Full relief parallax. Cost: high | on for close-up surfaces |
| Parallax Height | Depth in cm, does not change with Tiling | bricks / paving 1–3, fine detail 0.5–1 |
| Parallax Max Steps | Quality close up; far away it costs almost nothing | 32, deep hero surfaces 64 |
| Parallax Shadow | Soft self-shadow inside the relief. 0 = off, no cost | 0–1 |
| Use Bump Offset? | Cheap alternative, one extra lookup, same Parallax Height | mid-distance surfaces |
Tips¶
- Parallax Shadow comes from the Directional Light with Atmosphere Sun Light on; it is not visible in the Material Editor preview. Longest with a low sun.
- Use Pixel Depth Offset? (off by default): turn it on only where props must blend softly into the surface. Keep it off on floors and walls that cast shadows (blotchy self-shadow); it is also expensive with Nanite.
